The Joy of English Toffee

Every Christmas season my mom makes at least one batch of delicious English Toffee. It is the best holiday treat I have ever had, and I look forward to it each year. The combination of chocolate, nuts, and toffee creates the perfect combination for a sweet, crunchy delight.
Most years she shares some toffee with our friends and family, and it is always a hit.
English Toffee is perfect for pre-meal, post-meal, and midnight snacking. You really cannot go wrong with it.
I look forward to this time of year for many reasons; family, gift-exchanges, rest, games, and food are just a few. Although toffee is not one of the most important parts of Christmas, it seems to involve many of the themes of the season.
Making the toffee is often a group effort. My mom might disagree with that statement, but I would contend that there is always a group around eager to help with the final step of breaking the toffee.
Sharing the toffee connects us with our community and helps us to share joy with the people around us. It is a small gift, but it truly is the spirit and gesture that count.
And finally, eating the toffee brings us joy. We savor the candy itself, but it is also easy to reminisce on past Christmases. Old stories are retold, new experiences are had, and our family grows closer.
In a season that can easily become stressful and in opposition to the spirit of Christmas, English Toffee might serve as some glue to hold it all together.
Thank you for those of you who have made it to the end of my rambling. I am not sure that English Toffee actually has any of the significance that I am attributing to it, but perhaps I can be forgiven in overstating its symbolism in light of it being impossible to overstate its delightful taste.
Merry Christmas! I hope you and your loved ones have a joyful holiday season.
