It's About the People
Surround yourself with quality people to improve your life. It really is that simple. I am convinced that the majority of the issues in my life could be solved if I connected with the right people.
There are two big steps that can help you connect with the people you need in your life:
Develop the habit of asking good questions
Be the type of person that people want to help
First, we need to develop the habit of asking, "Who can help me?" when we encounter problems rather than concluding, "I am stuck." There is no shame in asking questions, but giving up when someone could have helped you is nearly unforgivable. I guarantee that you will not reach your potential if you do not ask questions.
I am amazed at people's willingness to engage when I ask thoughtful questions. Even experts are often willing to share their knowledge if you take the time to ask a good question. The best questions are ones that prove you have done some legwork. Asking questions that take thirty seconds to look up reflect poorly on you. Instead, you should ask questions that build upon the foundational work you have already done.
Second, you need to be the type of person other people want to help. This starts with being a decent, respectful, genuine person. Common courtesy goes a long way. If you want to be in relationships with high character people, spend time building your character.
In order to do the great things you desire, you need to build the necessary character traits and learn from people who have been there before.
