Champions Show Up
The last couple of weeks I have taken a short break from the blog. I was in the midst of final projects and final exams and decided that I needed to focus on those. It was quite the workload, but I am excited to be finished with semester and looking forward to some new, exciting opportunities this summer.
On the last day of my marketing class, my professor shared an inspirational video with us. It was full of quotes and motivation to be your best. Honestly, when it began, I was not paying much attention to it. I didn't feel the need to watch a random video when I had so many things to do.
As it kept going, I couldn't help but watch and listen. I am a sucker for motivation, especially when it is steeped in sports metaphors. I love the adrenaline rush. A simple line from that video has stuck with me these past couple of weeks.
"Champions show up."
It is such a simple concept, but it is so powerful. You cannot be a champion if you don't show up. You have to show up to practice. You have to show up to games. You really have to show up for the big games.
Getting reps in every single day is vital. Whether it is sales calls, brainstorming sessions, presentations, etc., find ways to practice your craft each day.
There is no replacement for steady effort. Consistency breeds belonging. If you show up to the gym everyday, you will begin to feel like you belong. Start showing up in the places that you want to succeed, and you will find that your dreams don't seem as far away as they once did.
If you start showing up in the big moments, becoming a champion is no longer a fantasy. Commit to showing up. Showing up when you don't want to says a lot to those around you about your character, and will begin to shape you into a champion.
Champions don't become champions by skipping workouts they aren't interested in. They don't become champions by abandoning their teammates. They don't become champions by shrinking from the spotlight.
Champions show up.
In a world where it has become temporarily impossible to gather in the traditional sense, don't forget to show up. It takes an extra effort to continue your methodical progress towards becoming a champion with the disruption caused by this tragedy, but don't give in. Times like these separate the champions from the good players. Rise to the challenge, show up, and become a champion.
