5 Weeks of Habit Building: Week 1

Last week I started five weeks of habit building. I am spending these five weeks to try to build a foundation of good habits. To read more about my process, read my recent post: Five Weeks of Habit Building.
The habits that I am building:
Read 30 minutes every day
Workout 5x a week
Take 3 tangible steps towards personal/career development each week
The Good
First, the good news. I did complete each of the tasks this week. I am happy that I stayed on track.
I also really enjoyed the personal/career development this week. I had a conversation with a mentor of mine about real estate that prompted further research and analysis. I spent a lot of time in Excel this week figuring out the financial risks and returns of real estate investing. I learned a ton, and I enjoyed it a lot. I expect I will be spending some more time in the coming weeks learning even more.
The Bad
As you might have been able to decipher from the header picture, I have gotten off to a bit of a slow start. Three of my workouts this week were twenty minutes or less. Like I said in my original post, I am not going to be super upset with myself for that, but I definitely did not meet my goals/expectations.
There was also a day that I did not read the full thirty minutes. This was largely due to me pushing it too late into the night and struggling to stay awake any longer.
Lessons Learned and Adjustments for This Week
One thing I learned last week was something that I already kind of knew about myself. I am not particularly a morning person, but I have found that the earlier I start on something productive in the day, the better the rest of my day goes. My struggles this week completing all of the habits were a consequence of starting too late in the day. There were multiple days where my workout and reading were the last things that I did before going to bed. This week, I will be making an extra effort to start earlier in the day.
The other observation from this week was regarding the personal/career development. This week, I focused entirely on real estate development for those three tangible steps. It was great this week, but I am not sure what is better: focusing on one area for an entire week or more, or spreading the activities out between different interests. I suspect that focusing for at least a week might be more beneficial, but this week, I am going to try to switch it up just to test out the other method.
This week I will focus on getting an earlier start and lengthening my workouts and reading times. As we learned from our friend the tortoise, being steady is important, so that is my top priority. That being said, being fast and steady is a whole lot more fun than being a tortoise.
